WASATCH COUNTY EVENT CENTER
An arena deserving its 8 seconds (and more) of attention
The Wasatch County Events Center in Heber City, Utah may be host to old-time rodeos and traditional cowboy poetry festivals, but it?s far from old fashioned. Developed as a design-build project by Owell and constructed primarily from precast concrete, the WCEC is an impressive new establishment in this mountain community.
Featuring a 172 x 300-foot clear span indoor arena with seating for 1,800, the event center is a prime example of precast concrete capabilities. The stadium-style seating serves double duty with office, mechanical and restroom areas below. And the exterior not only complements the natural setting with a ledgestone pattern surround, it pays tribute to the community with custom art panels depicting actual rodeo riders, athletes, landscapes, and the Wasatch County logo.
As in professional rodeo riding, timing is everything. Owell poured the footings for the events center in May 2005 and completed the arena in just a short (and impressive) six months.
